In Lombardia l’affluenza alle urne è stata del 41,67. Centrodestra 54,67%. Centrosinistra 33,93%. Terzo polo 9,87%. Unione Popolare 1,53%. “Le recenti elezioni regionali, oltre a registrare la scontata vittoria di Fontana, verranno ricordate per il record di astensione. In un generale contesto di disaffezione, causato principalmente dalla scarsa alternativa offerta dagli schieramenti in campo, impegnati alacremente a ripetere un copione pressoché identico tra loro, il risultato di Unione Popolare può essere considerato positivamente” ha commentato il candidato di UP, Massimo Giordano.

“Il lieve incremento percentuale, comunque insufficiente per eleggere un consigliere, è frutto, unico caso tra le forze politiche, della conferma nelle urne di tre elettori su quattro. Un risultato non scontato, che può essere letto come un primo segnale di fiducia da parte del nostro elettorato. E' stato infatti molto importante, dopo quindici anni di progetti politici che duravano lo spazio di una tornata elettorale, essere stati capaci di confermare la coalizione e la linea politica che sta alla base di Unione Popolare” una grande soddisfazione da parte degli attivisti. Come noto UP rappresenta la coalizione tra Rifondazione Comunista, Potere al Popolo, DemA e ManifestA, storie e pratiche diverse tra loro ma orientate a percorrere l'unità per la sinistra alternativa italiana.

“Una sfida notevole, enorme ed entusiasmante- ha proseguito Massimo Giordano- perché nel trovare la sintesi tra loro queste forze devono saper trovare la formula per riconquistare la fiducia di un'area politica che è andata disperdendosi nella diaspora di questi anni. Ed è con questo spirito che anche io, pur non essendo iscritto a nessuna delle organizzazioni già citate, ho accettato la candidatura che mi è stata offerta e sento di ringraziare in primis i compagni di Rho del PRC e PaP per la fiducia riposta. Ho ritenuto giusto, dopo anni di mancata militanza attiva, seppur la mia storia parta giovanissimo dal PCI, dare il mio contributo nel modo più diretto possibile. I risultati ottenuti a Rho e Lainate in particolare, dove sono nato, vivo e lavoro, hanno rappresentato una immensa soddisfazione”.

“Un piccolo passo per un uomo, un grande passo per l’umanità” verrebbe da dire, usando le parole di Neil Armstrong, pensando al risultato di UP “Viene ora per noi tutti il momento di costruire quella sinistra che in questo Paese manca da troppo tempo. Unione Popolare si prefigge di rappresentare una alternativa ai poli stracitati dai principali mezzi di informazione, tutti ancora saldamente uniti nelle logiche conformiste della guerra e del neoliberismo del defunto governo Draghi, con buona pace della retorica su istituzioni nate per avvicinare i cittadini e favorire la pace nel continente. L’enfasi sul chi è più o meno di sinistra o comunista non mi appassiona, ma, secondo me giustamente, UP pone questi elementi come un discrimine per interlocuzioni politiche. La fase che attraversano l’Europa e il mondo è storica e a cascata non può non pesare nel dibattito nella provincia Italia”.

In questo momento non bisogna fermarsi, ma andare avanti, cosa avete in programma? “Unione Popolare dovrà ora saper osare. Quindi, come da indicazioni già giunte dai gruppi dirigenti nazionali, si dovrà costruire l’organizzazione nei territori: bisognerà scrivere e discutere, a partire dal basso, un manifesto programmatico e valoriale; servirà un modello organizzativo capace di includere nuovi soggetti organizzati e singoli cittadini; lanciare, con chi ci sta, campagne referendarie; promuovere forme comunicative per far sentire la nostra voce. Mantenere viva una opposizione sociale contro l’invio di armi in Ucraina, per un’Italia neutrale che persegue le strade per la pace; contro il mostro dell’autonomia differenziata, le politiche di privatizzazione dei servizi pubblici e l’impoverimento del lavoro”.

Partire dal basso, dal territorio “nel rhodense non si parte assolutamente da zero. In questi anni numerosi compagni di diversi soggetti non si sono mai fermati, hanno portato avanti battaglie in difesa dei nostri ospedali, per il lavoro, contro errate politiche urbanistiche, per affrontare veri e propri problemi di sussistenza di tanti cittadini minacciati dalla crisi alimentata dall’emergenza covid. Una tornata amministrativa e l’elezione di un consigliere sono sempre cose importanti, momenti che fanno pienamente parte dell’agire politico. Possiamo dire che non avere il successo sperato fa parte della partita, ma quello che stiamo imparando con l’esperienza UP è che il progetto sta crescendo e farà ancora parlare di se a tutti i livelli” ha concluso Massimo Giordano.
