Domenica 23 aprile il Rugby Rho ha conquistato la serie B, una bella partita terminata 59 a 7 contro il Rugby San Mauro, ha dato modo a tutti di poter festeggiare un momento atteso da tanti: la promozione. La storia del Rugby Rho inizia nel 1947, precisamente nella primavera del 1947: “alcuni giocatori dell’ Amatori Milano (fra i quali Tarcisio Merlini, Giuseppe Zamboni, Ottavio Porta e Anselmo Casati) decidono di fondare una squadra di rugby a Rho. Si riuniscono al campo comunale con altri amici e cominciano la grande avventura. Nonostante l’entusiasmo e l’ottimismo i numeri non permettono di schierare una vera squadra. Si  decide  quindi di convincere altri ragazzi. Merlini incontra  prima Ferruccio Radaelli, contatta  poi Piero Garavaglia  sul treno che va a Milano e riesce nell’impresa di fargli abbandonare il calcio. Il gruppo diventa, settimana dopo settimana, sempre più folto: gli allenamenti sono ormai un appuntamento preciso, un riferimento importante anche quando si tengono in via Meda, l’unica via illuminata all’epoca. In oltre 75 anni di storia il Rugby Rho ha fatto grandi cose, forse dimenticate dai più, ma la loro forza, la loro tenacia e la loro tradizione rugbista hanno permesso di far conoscere Rho, non solo in Italia, ma anche in tutto il mondo della palla ovale. In tanti campioni hanno calpestato l’erba del campo al Molinello, e in tanti, i campioni futuri, la calpesteranno. Siete un vanto per la città.
